Bristol Myers Squibb have announced the appointment of Giovanni Caforio M.D. as Chief Operating Officer. The company also announced that Dr. Caforio has been elected to the Board of Directors. In addition to the role responsibilities of COO, Dr. Caforio will be responsible for Enterprise Services and Global Manufacturing and Supply. He will continue to report to the Company’s CEO, Lamberto Andreotti.
He has been with BMS since 2000, when he initially served as VP and GM for Italy, as well as leadership for Greece and South-East Europe. Most significantly though, Dr. Caforio has been partly responsible for BMS’s successes in immuno-oncology, where between 2007 and 2011 he directed both US and Global oncology, then assumed a role as U.S. President and COO between 2011 and 2014.
BMS Chairman, James Cornelius, praised Giovanni Caforio for his role in BMS becoming a biopharma company and welcomed his contribution as a member of the Board of Directors.
