The Welsh Government has announced the launch of a life sciences Hub which is aimed at growing and nurturing the life sciences industry in the country.
The Hub is a joint initiative between the government and Sir Chris Evans’ Arthurian Life Sciences. The Hub is designed to complement the £100m Welsh Life Science Investment Fund launched by the Welsh government in 2013.
The Hub will work in conjunction with the newly formed MedCity initiative in London, which is already running at over 50% capacity. Alongside working with other industry clusters of excellence, the hub will offer more practical facilities for events, training and meetings, as well as direct access to the Life Sciences team at the Welsh Government. This access is designed to foster faster innovation through funding and support from a network of professional advisers in the industry.
Edwina Hart, Wales’s minister for economy, science and transport said: The Hub will cover all elements from funding to business support to international development and promotion of the life science sector. The hub is central to our long-term strategy to grow the sector to deliver at least £1bn of extra value by 2022.’
