The Investing in Biotechnology Management report is a detailed 20-page study of the current Venture Capital (VC) and financing landscape for private biotechnology companies in the US and Europe, looking at data collected from 110 investments over the 2014 (HY2) and 2015 (HY1) period. The report looks at investment themes such as; capital allocation by location, investments by stage and also average investment levels. The data is then further analysed to look at specific
trends which relate to the board composition and company leadership, with particular focus given towards the gender diversity of the board and of the leadership.
• Only 5.4% of venture capital invested in biotechnology companies with women CEOs
• Biotechnology companies with all-male boards garner 57% of all venture capital financing
The report also examines hiring data from across the sector, looking at 308 recent executive appointments at the Board, C-suite and Function level to analyse hiring trends by function and to assess the gender representation among these recruitment board directors and executives.
• Women just 3% of new CEO appointments in biotechnology
The report concludes with a number of key findings that further enhance understanding about the gender diversity of boards and executive teams governing the innovative companies in the biotechnology sector.
